Day off.

I am glad that I had a day off yesterday. I did spend the night at the station Sunday night, but after waking up on Monday I left, ran a bunch of errands and went out to have a few drinks. You always need some time to yourself, and yesterday it was nice to get out and do some things. I have to work today, and let me tell you there is nothing more exciting then having to make subs all day long....

Kick Ball and The Fighter

This morning continued to be a fun morning with most of our EMS calls coming from the exact same apartment building. Sleeping beauty was patient #1, and a few hours later we were back for patient #2 who decided he wasn't going to be very nice, and decided to get very combative with us on the way to the hospital. So we had have a little extra help in the back of the box to make sure that the patient didn't hurt himself of anyone else during the transport. That was pretty much the last call of the morning.

Then finally this afternoon the long awaited Vinton vs Read Mountain kick ball game took place, and just like predicted we dominated the entire game. Now, the Vinton kids are crying that it was not a win because the ball we were using was punctured and we didn't have a replacement, but I think they were just mad we scored 5 runs in one inning over them. It was a really really good time, and fun was had by everyone. Below is a photo.

After the game was over we all came back to the station and hung out and looked at some of the pictures from the game. Most everyone went home after the game was over, but a few of us stuck around and went out for dinner and had mexican food. We sit down and finally get our food when we get toned out for a call right across the street from our station. Mind you we are a good ways away at the mexican restaurant having our dinner, so we have to take the Wagon and try and make it back for this call. Lucky for us a few members came down to the station and were able to get a rescue unit rolling before we arrived. It was a quick on scene time for all the units involved, those of us on the Wagon cleared and went back home to finish eating our mexican food.

Well, of course not too much longer after we get back to the station and start eating our food we get toned out for a commercial fire alarm at a hotel on the Roanoke County side of things. We were disregarded to that call since it turned out to be nothing more then burnt pop corn in one of the rooms.

I got bored once we returned to the station so I decided I would take a quick trip over and visit my buddies at Vinton First Aid Crew. Took this quick video of them leaving out of their station on a call.

That's all for now, I might have some more tomorrow depending on how this night turns out.

Sleeping Beauty

I was in some really good sleep this morning when the tones went off for a call in our first due (finally). So we all run out of bed and get to the trucks because the nature of the call is rather serious sounding. We roll the ambulance and the wagon for additional manpower, just because the call is shaping up to the a possible code.

Once we arrive on scene the Lt. for Botetourt County is already inside with the patient. Turns out the call wasn't as bad as it sounded, nor was anything wrong other then the fact grandma was sleeping really, really good (kind of like I was before tones went off). Apparently the patient was snoring and since the patient doesn't normally snore, they got scared and called 911. WTF? If making noise in your sleep was a reason to call 911, everyone here at this station agrees I should of had 911 called on my every night for some of the noises that I make in my sleep.

So, a fairly busy night looks like it is going to turn into a fairly busy morning.

Weekend Blues

So, I have been sitting down at the station for most of the night and needless to say it has been an eventful night so far. I got down here around 7:30pm or so, and tried to sit down and eat my chinese food, but just like any other time I try and sit down here and do something a call goes out.

Call #1 for the night was an old lady that bumped her head and needed to go get a stitch or two. Not a call in our first due.

Once we cleared that call and let the first due rescue unit transport we came back to the station to sit around and try and decide what our dinner plans would be for the night. After twenty minutes or so of arguing as to which local eatery we would be going to another call goes out.

Call #2 also a call not in our first due. Was for a lady who was having a seizure, first due rescue unit took care of that.

Okay, so now it is time for us to go and eat, so we all pile back into our trucks and head out to Applebees. Now, the problem with all of us going out to eat is that even the smallest little comment gets taken out of context, but it atleast provides for a good inside joke or two. Dinner went well and to our surprise it wasn't interrupted by any calls or anything happening out in the parking lot.

After dinner the Wagon crew went out and got some ice cream, and those of us on the ambulance went and picked up another member and came back to the station. After a few minutes of joking around and making fun of something on tv the tones drop for:

Call #3 which of course is not in our first due, but it is back at the same location as call #2. We mark en route and maybe make it 2 miles down the road headed to this call, when the first due rescue unit marks that they will be able to handle without our help. So, we clear and head back home when we hear that they have just been kicked off the property by the home owner. One day I will figure out why people do the things they do.....

So, I finally get back to the station and think I have a few minutes to let my feet rest and sit around for a few minutes.... Oh how wrong I was.

Call #4, and guess what? Your right! Not in our first due. This call was a way down the road, took us about 10 minutes to get to the scene, but hey, that's Botetourt County for ya. Well, it was an accident which really didn't amount to much considering it was a single vehicle involved, but the driver did one hell of a job to hit two trees and walk away.

Well, I am now back at the station, and I am finally thinking about going to bed. Let's just see how long this lasts.
